Held in Ireland ,on the Dingle peninsular at the end of August in pretty classic waves and weather ,Guts convincingly took out the surfing event which was held in rather decent 3-4ft lefthanders at a break called Dumps in Brandon Bay . Guts put on a fine show of power turns and styling manoeuvres which included a couple of nose 360s to end up the clear winner.
With the Surfing put to bed ,next up was the distance race which was a six mile endurance sprint along the coast which consisted of a fantastic downwind first half which saw all the competitors making good ground before turning up the coast and into a gruelling headwind for the run to the finish! Guts was lying in third behind John Hibbard and Steve Carter on the Downwind stretch but showed some real class to power to the front as the race headed into the difficult home leg to take the lead and round off a fantastic weekend by winning the race too!
Chris's son ,Connor Griffiths who is the current British Junior no 1 also had a top weekend placing equal 3rd in the mens paddle surfing and winning the Junior distance race to make a fine family double!! |
