I took a 610by 20 ½ rounded pintail big boy thruster, a 6 8 Mullet and a 94 single fin nose rider. Paul took a 610 semi gun.

After checking the weather charts closely for the previous week or so we had decided that if we left on Monday night , we would hopefully arrive at the peak of the predicted swell on Tuesday morning .The swell was supposed to peak at around 40 ft of open ocean swell early Tuesday and then degenerate slowly over the next few days. With a little luck with the wind we could be in for a couple of amazing days .

Over the next four days we got to surf:
Thurso East ranging from 3ft and glassy to 8ft and windy offshore. Worth the petrol alone!!!
Gills Bay at around 6ft and a little side shore.
And 2 semi secret lefts near Dunnet Head that were super clean and playful .
160 Waves surfed.
I surfed some fantastic waves over the four days . The most memorable would have to be a couple of the set waves I managed to get on the big day at Thurso East. Also a couple of the rides at this glassy left we found were fantastic fun -over 200 m of glassy ripable wall in the winter sunshine with only myself for company .If you make the effort to look you can still find perfection and get it all to yourself.
2 Tons of Cow Shit
Access to Thurso East is through a farmyard that has so much Cow shit in it you end up with shit on your wetsuit ,on your board , and in your car .A small price to pay though .
6 ½ Beers consumed
We surfed so much that over three nights we managed just 6 ½ beers . And that was between the 3 of us.
1 deep fried mars bars eaten
A Scottish delicacy that is actually better than it sounds. Not good for the figure though
28 Hours spent on the road driving

This is the equivalent of driving to Biarritz in the South of France and back again. |

It was a pretty special fathers day at the Sunset Surf SUP Classic for Guts when he took out the open division only to be joined by his son Connor who also took out the Junior title. |
