About Us

Guts Surfboards is proudly owned and operated by Chris 'Guts' Griffiths, a former two-time European professional surfing champion. With over 35 years of experience surfing the waves of Gower and beyond, Chris’s passion for the sport began in childhood, catching his first waves at Llangennith, where his grandparents had a caravan.
His competitive career took off in his late teens, leading to an impressive collection of titles, including over a dozen Welsh titles, seven British titles, and two European professional crowns. At the peak of his career, Chris was ranked 5th in the world and remains the only European surfer to have ever win the ASP Event against surfing legend Joel Tudor.

Chris 'Guts' Griffiths is not only a champion surfer but also a highly skilled board builder, having been hand-shaping surfboards on Gower for nearly 20 years. As the highest-ranked surfer/shaper on the ASP World Longboard Tour, Chris achieved all his major titles on boards he crafted himself—a testament to his expertise in both surfing and board design.
His craftsmanship has played a key role in the success of top UK surfers, with Elliot Dudley and Sam Bleakley both winning multiple European titles on boards shaped by Chris. Over the years, his boards have also been ridden by two-time world champion Beau Young and world amateur champion Michele Demont from Tahiti, cementing his reputation as a world-class shaper.

In recent years, Chris 'Guts' Griffiths has embraced the growing discipline of Stand Up Paddle (SUP) surfing, quickly making his mark with multiple British titles to his name. His passion for the sport even led him to take part in the first-ever SUP crossing of the Bristol Channel, further proving his dedication to new surfing challenges.
Chris established Guts Surfboards Surfshop in 2000, providing local surfers with top-quality surfing equipment. The shop boasts an impressive stock of over 60 new surfboards and paddleboards, along with a great selection of second-hand boards. You'll also find an extensive range of wetsuits and accessories, plus the option to rent a board, get a repair, or even have one custom-made.
